THE

CHRONICLES OF

INA KESS

INA KESS was founded with

the vision of creating stylish

and comfortable everyday

clothing made from the finest

technical fabrics. The brand

is led by two founding sisters,

along with an intern, and their

“atelier” is located in a flat in

the heart of Zurich. To better

understand the customers’

needs, the team conducts

surveys directly on the streets.

Blending the worlds of sport and fashion. Lookbook

The groundwork starts. Numer-

ous visits to factories in Italy,

Portugal, and Lithuania, in-

house pattern developments,

countless feedback rounds

with family and friends and

the creation of our website

take over our days and nights.

On 6 December 2016

INAKESS.COM goes live.

We begin collaborating with

our first partners: Jelmoli in

Zurich, Pesko in Lenzerheide,

and a yoga studio. While

stores are initially skeptical

about the combination of

technical fabrics and fash-

ion-forward design, we remain

steadfast in our vision.

OUR HISTORY

INA KESS goes internation-

al. Our first pop-up store at

KaDeWe in Berlin is a suc-

cess, leading to a permanent

partnership with the KaDeWe

Group. This also marks the

launch of our international

warehouse, enabling duty-free

shipping across the EU.

In February, international

showrooms in Paris, Düs-

seldorf, Munich, and Milan

enhance the brand’s appeal to

global retailers. The lockdown

forces us to find new ways of

doing business, leading to the

introduction of instant deliv-

ery via bike courier in Zurich.

Despite the challenges, we

continue to grow. Our slogan,

“Tailored to Move Forward”

is born. Alfred, our second

office cat, joins the family,

bringing our team to 10.

Swiss department store Globus

undergoes a takeover and

plans a repositioning. We

expand into Zurich and

Geneva, opening our own

store-in-stores during the

lockdowns. Meanwhile, INA

KESS takes on the Big Apple

and becomes available at Fly-

ing Solo in NYC — no risk, no

fun, right? Countless customers

embrace the brand and fall in

love with the exceptional com-

fort. Driven by our deep love

for animals, the next logical

step is the creation of the INA

KESS Animal Foundation.

Our customer base grows both

in Switzerland and internation-

ally, and the investment in our

own store-in-stores pays off.

Our team and collection con-

tinue to expand. The ONYX

of the brand and an instant

bestseller.

INTERVIEW

INA KESS is often associated with

strength and elegance. How do

these values show up in your own

daily life, beyond the workplace?

Mounting my kitchen lamp wearing

the CESARE Blazer.

In

a

fast-moving

world,

what

does “timelessness” mean to you,

both

personally

and

creatively?

For me, timelessness means feeling like

something is always the right match,

regardless of season, age, mood, or

occasion. The LUXE LÉGER trousers

are the best example of this. I designed

them ten years ago, and by now

they must have been worn thousands

of times. Yet I still love them just as

much, everywhere and anytime.

When everything around you moves

quickly, what helps you stay grounded

and connected to your own rhythm?

Closing my eyes and listening

to music, preferably above the

clouds, with the sun on my face.

INA KESS: Katharina, leadership

often comes with constant movement

and decision-making. How do you

personally protect your sense of

balance and clarity while leading

INA KESS?

Katharina: I try to pause and think

before I speak or act, and to listen

closely to my inner voice, my gut feeling.

Taking that brief moment helps me

approach decisions with more balance

and clarity, and to look at situations

from different angles. Of course, there

are moments when impulsiveness

takes over, but in general, I believe

there’s very little to lose by taking

a breath before moving forward.

Travel can be both inspiring and

demanding. How does being on the

move influence the way you think,

create, and make decisions for

the brand?

Movement is at the core of who I am,

and naturally, of our designs and

their functionality. Expriencing different

places,

cultures,

colours,

and

perspectives gives me an incredible

amount of energy. Stepping out

of the everyday context allows

me to revisit decisions, plans, and

scenarios with fresh eyes. Even

a short trip can be powerful —

sometimes just 24 hours are enough.

PASSION IN PRACTICE

INSIDE THE DAILY RITUALS, CREATIVITY, AND MINDFUL

CHOICES THAT SHAPE A MEANINGFUL LIFE

In Conversation with:

Suzana Pimenta – Stylist & Creative Consultant

DJ Yara – DJ & Creative Producer

Nadia Damaso – Cookbook Author & INA KESS Ambassador

INTERVIEW

Suzana Pimenta shares how she approaches

style, confidence, and effortless elegance —

on the move and beyond.

Suzana Pimenta is a stylist, creative

consultant, and advocate of intentional

fashion. For her, style is more than just

clothing — it’s a reflection of identity,

confidence, and lifestyle. In this

exclusive interview, Suzana shares her

philosophy on personal style, her travel

wardrobe essentials, and the key

principles she teaches her clients

to communicate who they are without

saying a word.

“Style should

feel natural,

effortless, and

authentic —

when aligned, it

becomes a

powerful tool.”

Suzana Pimenta

14

THE ART OF

PERSONAL STYLING

INTERVIEW

INA KESS: Suzana, what is your

philosophy when it comes to personal

style?

Suzana Pimenta: My philosophy is that

personal style is not about trends or

rules, but about alignment — alignment

between who you are, how you live,

and how you want to be perceived.

Style should feel natural, effortless,

and authentic. When it is well aligned,

it becomes a powerful tool: it builds

confidence, saves time, and allows

you to express yourself without having

to explain who you are.

For me, true style is timeless. It evolves

with you, supports your lifestyle,

and reveals your personality rather

than disguising it.

What do clothing and accessories

say about someone before they

even speak?

Clothing and accessories speak long

before words do. They communicate

intention, confidence, attention to detail,

and often a sense of self-awareness.

Before someone speaks, we already

perceive energy, posture, and attitude

through what they wear.

Accessories, in particular, reveal subtle

information — how someone finishes an

outfit, how they value quality, and how

comfortable they are with themselves.

When style is coherent and intentional,

it sends a quiet but powerful message:

I know who I am.

If you were packing for a trip to Sicily,

which three INA KESS pieces would

you recommend and why?

The FIORITA LASER Skirt1: I chose this

skirt because it is absolutely stunning.

It feels incredibly glamorous and

refined, with a subtle nod to Italian

elegance that perfectly matches

the atmosphere of the island. The

openwork and laser-cut details give

it a minimalist yet sensual, feminine,

and sophisticated look.

THE AVER Body Swimsuit2: This

one-shoulder

swimsuit

is

both

extremely feminine and beautifully

minimal. I love how effortless and

comfortable it feels: between visits, I

can simply dive into the water without

needing an extra bag or a change

of clothes. I just take off the skirt and

I’m ready — practical, elegant, and

perfectly suited to this type of trip.

The SICI Denim Shacket3: What I

love about this look is how easily it

transforms. During the day, it works

perfectly with flats or sneakers for ex-

ploring. In the evening, I switch to heels,

style the denim jacket differently —

over the shoulders or tied at the waist

— and the outfit instantly becomes

more elegant and glamorous.

These three pieces work beautifully

together

and

can

be

restyled

effortlessly depending on the occasion,

allowing me to travel light without

compromising on style. I love this outfit

because it’s minimal, elegant, and very

feminine, yet truly out of the ordinary. It

captures the spirit of travel and summer,

takes very little space in a suitcase,

and I could almost travel wear ing

just this look if I wanted to pack

light — without ever sacrificing style.

What’s a styling tip you always share

with

your

clients

that

people

often overlook?

Dress for the message you want to send,

not just for the occasion. Most people

focus on where they’re going (“work”,

“dinner”, “event”), but they forget to think

about how they want to be perceived.

Clothes communicate before you

speak. I always ask my clients:

Do you want to look approachable,

credible,

creative,

powerful,

or

effortless? What do you want people

to remember about you?

Once that intention is clear, everything

becomes easier:

Colours

feel

more

intentional,

Silhouettes

make

more

sense,

Accessories stop being random and

start telling a story.

A simple example: the same blazer can

look strict, modern, or effortlessly chic

depending on the cut, fabric, colour,

and what you pair it with. Style isn’t

about having more clothes — it’s about

alignment between who you are,

what you do, and what you show.

15

INTERVIEW

How do you see the relationship

between fashion, confidence, and

everyday life?

I see fashion, confidence, and everyday

life as deeply interconnected. What

you wear influences how you feel,

and how you feel influences how

you show up in your daily life. When

your clothes truly reflect who you

are — your personality, your lifestyle,

your values — you move differently,

you speak differently, and you

make decisions with more ease.

suzanapimenta.ch

Fashion then becomes a tool, not

a pressure. It supports your life instead

of complicating it.

For me, true style is not about standing

out at all costs — it’s about feeling

so comfortable in who you are

that

your

confidence

becomes

natural and effortless.

Confidence

doesn’t

come

from

following trends or dressing “perfectly.”

It comes from recognition: looking in the

mirror and feeling aligned with yourself.

In everyday life, that alignment

is powerful because

• You stop overthinking your outfits

• You waste less time and energy

• You feel more legitimate taking

up space, speaking up, and

being seen

“Confidence

doesn’t come from

following trends

or dressing

‘perfectly.’

It comes from

recognition:

looking in the

mirror and feeling

aligned with

yourself.”

INTERVIEW

A JOURNEY THROUGH

SOUND

DJ Yara shares how travel, rituals, and inspiration

shape her music — keeping creativity and balance

at the heart of her life.

Valeria Talurina, professionally known as

DJ Yara, is an internationally acclaimed

DJ whose sets blend intuition, emotion,

and the energy of the places she visits.

From the Maldives to stages around

the world, she draws inspiration from

nature, travel, and human connection.

n this interview, Yara shares how her

rituals, experiences, and personal

philosophy shape her music, fuel her

creativity, and help her stay balanced

while constantly on the move.

“Music allows

me to speak

through it — to

tell the story of

my life or my

day in ways

words alone

cannot.”

DJ Yara

18

INTERVIEW

INA KESS: Yara, where in the

world do you feel most creatively

inspired, and why?

DJ Yara: I believe the place that has

always given me the greatest inspiration

is the Maldives. There, you connect

so deeply with nature and completely

disconnect from the pace of city

life that even the barefoot way of

living fills you with creative ideas.

Nothing interferes with your body’s

ability to feel — and perhaps that’s

when the soul begins to breathe

freely.

Music

merges

with

the

sound of the waves, birdsong,

and the rustling of palm leaves.

I often say that my form of meditation is

through my DJ sets. When I play from

the soul, from the heart, and when I

play what I truly feel, I always receive

the strongest response and the most

compliments from guests and listeners.

Most likely, the Maldives are also

special to me because the islands

brought me together with many inspiring

and talented people from around the

world, including the magical Katharina

from INA KESS. The Maldives also

gave me the opportunity to travel even

more with my performances globally.

How

does

travelling

influence

your music, your sets, and the way

you connect with your audience?

Travelling, together with my profession,

greatly

expands

perspective,

perception, and the way you think and

live. It allows you to be truly free — in

your thoughts, emotions, and feelings.

As you move around the world, there

are places where you feel the urge

to play your music exactly as you feel

it, and other places where you want

to add subtle notes of local flavour.

It’s impossible to fully explain the

choice of music, just as it’s impossible

to build an entire set in advance.

There is always a rough outline of a set,

but it is never reproduced exactly —

quite the opposite. For me, it’s important

to arrive at the venue early, feel the

atmosphere, observe the people, and

only then does the set begin to take

shape within me, with the tracks naturally

arranging themselves in the right order.

Perhaps this is how travelling influences

my work — by giving me a sense of

freedom,

visual

and

emotional

awareness, and openness to the

world around me.

Life on the road can be intense. Are

there any personal rituals or habits

that help you recharge between gigs?

For me, it’s most important to do a

lot of what I love every single day.

Always the gym, now meditation,

always a walk with coffee and a book,

always the beach and grounding —

and I make sure to lie on the sand. I

adore the feeling of sand in my hair

and the salt… it might not be great for

my hair, but it’s perfect for the soul.

I really love spending time alone with

myself, so my main secret is this: time

for preparing my music, time for getting

ready (I always love dressing up —

especially dresses), the performance

itself, and then all remaining free

time devoted to doing what I love.

I call it “my favourite routine.”

What does music give you that

nothing else does?

On a practical level, music gives me the

freedom to live my life mostly the way

I want. It gives me the ability to see the

world. Music has brought me so many

magical encounters and moments

that would never have happened if I

hadn’t chosen music as my way of life.

On a creative and spiritual level, music

allows me to speak through it — to tell

the story of my life or my day using a

set of tracks. To be silent through music,

playing chill-out without words or with

sounds of nature, or to be loud when it’s

necessary. Music helps me understand,

explore, and perhaps even express

what words alone cannot.

When you’re constantly on the move,

what does balance mean to you,

both

personally

and

creatively?

Before this question, I caught myself

reflecting on how multifaceted a

woman can be. Just a few minutes

ago, I was taking care of my partner:

checking his temperature, studying

medications, tidying up at home…

and now I’m a creative person who

loves to connect with people, give

interviews, and share my experiences.

For me, balance in these areas is still

a process of learning how to manage

it all.

Balance in personal life: At the

beginningof my career, DJing was

always my top priority. I could

completely skip meals or water just

to make sure a performance dress fit

perfectly — my whole life was lived

from the perspective of “I am an artist”.

Later, I realised that I am the main

characterin my own life, and I

developed the desire to spend as much

time as possible between gigs on the

things I love, while stepping onto the

stage fully as an artist. This year has

brought a new experience: choosing

myself, my beloved partner, and

my creativity based on true desires.

And learning to be versatile, to switch

quickly from one role to another,

while staying authentic to myself.

Balance in creative life: Even after 20

years of DJ experience, you still need to

know how to smoothly fit your favourite

track into the organiser’s playlist —

because you love that track so much

and really want to play it now or never.
